Description of the center

The mission of MISTIC is to train medical students, house officers and physicians in ‘open’ and minimally invasive surgical (MIS) skills and techniques, to facilitate continuing medical education (CME) opportunities at a local,  national and international level, and to foster advanced surgical innovation in instrumentation, procedures and training in partnership with other Johns Hopkins entities, as the Whiting School of Engineering (WSE), and the Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), and industry.
Located on the 12th floor of the Blalock Building in The Johns Hopkins Hospital, the 5,000 square foot MISTIC facility consists of a conference/ lecture room with seating for 35, two surgical teaching laboratories, and support space. The lecture room and laboratories are linked with state-of-the-art videoconferencing equipment to facilitate distance learning, both nationally and internationally. The surgical laboratories are equipped with cutting edge MIS equipment, surgical endoscopy towers, and surgical ultrasound capability. MISTC has access to an Intuitive daVinci Surgical Robot for research and development of surgical robotic applications.
